Logic Riddles With Answers: Easy to Hard Brain Teasers
Logic riddles reward careful reading, elimination, pattern spotting, and step-by-step reasoning. This set starts with quick deduction and number patterns, then moves into classic logic challenges where the explanation matters as much as the final answer.
Use the hint only after a real attempt, then open the answer and the reasoning. Some puzzles below are classic logic problems; others use simple fresh scenarios. The goal is a fair solution that can be explained, not a surprise answer that ignores its own clues.

Easy Logic Riddles
Three Cups
Riddle: A coin is under one of three cups: A, B, or C. Cup A is empty and cup B is empty. Where is the coin?
Hint: Eliminate the cups you know are empty.

Show answer
Priya, Omar, Lena
Why it works
Omar must be in the middle. Priya must be ahead of Lena, so Priya is first and Lena is last.
Locker Colors
Riddle: Three lockers numbered 1, 2, and 3 hold one red, one blue, and one green bag. The blue bag is in locker 3. The red bag is not in locker 1. Which bag is in locker 1?

The green bag
Why it works
Blue is already in 3. Red cannot be in 1, so red must be in 2, leaving green in 1.
Pet Owners
Riddle: Ali, Bea, and Chen each have a different pet: a cat, dog, or fish. Bea has the dog. Ali does not have the cat. Chen does not have the fish. Who has the fish?
Hint: After Bea takes dog, only cat and fish remain.

Hint: After Noah takes water, only milk and juice remain.
Show answer
Juice
Why it works
Mia cannot take milk, so she takes juice; Zoe gets milk.
Chair Number

The next jump is 9, so 18 + 9 = 27.
Letter Jumps
Riddle: What letter comes next: A, C, F, J, __?
Hint: The jumps grow by one letter each time.
Show answer
O
Why it works
The jumps are +2, +3, +4, then +5, taking J to O.
Divide by Three
Riddle: What number comes next: 81, 27, 9, 3, __?
Hint: Use division, not subtraction.
Show answer
1
Why it works
Each number is the previous number divided by 3.
Tricky Logic Riddles With Answers
Three Switches
Riddle: Three switches are outside a closed room. Inside are three ordinary light bulbs, one controlled by each switch. You may enter the room only once. How can you match every switch to its bulb?
Hint: Heat can give you information as well as light.
Show answer
Turn switch 1 on for a few minutes, turn it off, turn switch 2 on, then enter. The lit bulb is switch 2, the warm dark bulb is switch 1, and the cool dark bulb is switch 3.
Why it works
One bulb is identified by being on, another by stored heat, and the remaining bulb by elimination.
Two Fathers and Two Sons
Riddle: Two fathers and two sons share three apples so that each person gets one apple. How can three apples be enough?
Hint: The group may contain fewer than four people.
Show answer
They are a grandfather, his son, and his grandson.
Why it works
The middle person is both a son and a father, so there are only three people.
Socks in the Dark
Riddle: A drawer contains only red and blue socks. Without looking, what is the minimum number of socks you must take to guarantee a matching-color pair?
Hint: There are only two possible colors.
Show answer
3 socks
Why it works
The first two could be one red and one blue. The third must match one of them.
Thirty Cents
Riddle: Two U.S. coins total 30 cents. One of the coins is not a nickel. What are the two coins?
Hint: Read 'one of the coins' very literally.
Show answer
A quarter and a nickel
Why it works
The quarter is not a nickel; the statement never says the other coin cannot be one.
Age Equation
Riddle: Sara is twice Ben's age. In six years, their ages will add up to 42. How old are they now?
Hint: Let Ben's age be one part and Sara's be two parts.
Show answer
Ben is 10 and Sara is 20
Why it works
Their current ages total 30. Six years added to each makes the future total 42.
Four Seats
Riddle: Four seats are numbered 1 to 4 from left to right. Cora sits in seat 4. Ben sits immediately left of Ana. Ana is not on an end. Dan does not sit next to Cora. What is the order?
Hint: Cora fixes the right end; Dan cannot use seat 3.
Show answer
Dan, Ben, Ana, Cora
Why it works
Cora is 4, so Dan cannot be 3. Ben must sit immediately left of Ana, forcing Ben 2 and Ana 3, leaving Dan 1.
One Truth Teller
Riddle: Ava says, 'Ben is lying.' Ben says, 'Cora is lying.' Cora says, 'Ava and Ben are both lying.' Exactly one person tells the truth. Who is it?
Hint: Test each speaker as the only truth teller.
Show answer
Ben
Why it works
If Ben is truthful, Cora lies; Ava also lies because Ben is not lying. The other possibilities create contradictions.
Every Label Is Wrong
Riddle: Three jars are labeled Apples, Oranges, and Mixed. Every label is wrong. You may take one piece of fruit from one jar. Which jar should you sample first to relabel all three correctly?
Hint: Choose the jar whose label gives the most information because it cannot possibly match its contents.
Show answer
Sample the jar labeled Mixed
Why it works
Because every label is wrong, the Mixed-labeled jar contains only apples or only oranges. One fruit reveals which; the other two jars then follow by elimination.
Hard Logic Riddles
Eight Balls
Riddle: Eight balls look identical, but one is heavier. With a balance scale and only two weighings, how can you find the heavier ball?
Hint: A balance gives three outcomes: left heavy, right heavy, or equal.
Show answer
Weigh 3 against 3. If they balance, weigh the remaining 2 against each other. If they do not balance, take the heavier group of 3 and weigh 1 against 1; a balance makes the third ball the heavy one.
Why it works
The first weighing narrows eight balls to either two or three suspects; the second weighing identifies the heavy ball.
River Crossing
Riddle: A farmer must take a fox, a chicken, and a bag of grain across a river. The boat carries the farmer plus only one item. The fox cannot be left with the chicken, and the chicken cannot be left with the grain. How can all four cross safely?
Hint: The chicken has to travel more than once.
Show answer
Take the chicken across, return alone, take the fox across, bring the chicken back, take the grain across, return alone, then take the chicken across again.
Why it works
Each risky pair is separated whenever the farmer is away.
Bridge at Night
Riddle: Four people take 1, 2, 7, and 10 minutes to cross a bridge. At most two cross at once, they need one flashlight, and a pair moves at the slower person's speed. What is the fastest total time?
Hint: Use the two fastest people to move the flashlight efficiently.
Show answer
17 minutes
Why it works
1 and 2 cross (2); 1 returns (1); 7 and 10 cross (10); 2 returns (2); 1 and 2 cross (2). Total: 17.
Two Uneven Ropes
Riddle: You have two ropes. Each rope takes exactly 60 minutes to burn from one end to the other, but neither burns at a steady rate. How can you measure exactly 45 minutes?
Hint: Burning from both ends halves the remaining burn time even when the rate is uneven.
Show answer
Light both ends of rope A and one end of rope B. When A finishes, 30 minutes have passed. Then light the other end of B; B finishes 15 minutes later.
Why it works
Rope A marks 30 minutes. Rope B has 30 minutes of burn-time remaining, and lighting its second end makes that remainder finish in 15 minutes.
Clock Chimes
Riddle: A clock takes 5 seconds to chime 6 times. At the same steady spacing, how long will it take to chime 12 times?
Hint: Count the gaps between chimes, not just the chimes.
Show answer
11 seconds
Why it works
Six chimes contain five intervals, so each interval is one second. Twelve chimes contain eleven intervals.
One Hundred Machines
Riddle: Five identical machines make five identical toys in five minutes. How long would 100 identical machines take to make 100 toys?
Hint: Find the production rate of one machine.
Show answer
5 minutes
Why it works
Each machine makes one toy in five minutes, so 100 machines make 100 toys in the same five minutes.
All But Nine
Riddle: A farmer has 17 sheep. All but 9 run away. How many sheep remain?
Hint: 'All but 9' means 9 are the exception.
Show answer
9 sheep
Why it works
The phrase says every sheep except nine ran away.
Snail in a Well
Riddle: A snail climbs 3 feet each day and slips 2 feet each night. The well is 10 feet deep. On which day does the snail get out?
Hint: On the final day, the snail does not slide back after reaching the top.
Show answer
Day 8
Why it works
After seven nights the snail is at 7 feet. On day 8 it climbs 3 feet to 10 and gets out before any nighttime slip.
How to Solve Logic Riddles More Reliably
- Write down fixed facts first. Separate what the riddle states from what you are assuming.
- Eliminate impossible choices. Many logic riddles become easy once only one option remains.
- Check wording carefully. Words such as all but, immediately, and exactly one change the solution.
- Test the answer against every clue. A clever guess is not enough if one clue fails.

Logic Riddle Questions
What is the difference between a logic riddle and a regular riddle? A logic riddle should give enough information to reason toward the answer through deduction, patterns, constraints, or careful interpretation. A general riddle may rely more heavily on description, metaphor, or a punchline.
Why include explanations? For a real logic puzzle, the path to the answer is part of the value. The explanation lets you check whether the solution actually satisfies the clues rather than merely sounding clever.
